Toenails #0

Another entry for Shiot Crock #11, this is a tiny collection of single panel “funnies”, different from most by the fact that, in this case, they’re actually funny. Well, OK, the one with the land mine wasn’t all that funny, and the strip about the band member who killed his whole band was mostly funny because of the pants, but the other strips were hilarious. What more do you want? There were only 5 strips in here, as it’s a collection with work from all kinds of folks, and this is just here to highlight this one guy. I’ll bet you could get more information than you’re getting from me if you went to his website though…

Panda & Jess: Jeopardy

There’s a whole lot to be said for the comics where everything happens in the margins. In this one Panda and Jess may or may not be dating (although it looks to the untrained eye like they’re just having sex on the side but have also gotten emotionally attached) and this deals with Panda finding out that Jess is getting married. To somebody other than him, that is. A “conversation” ensues, again where most of it is left to our imagination. Great stuff all around. This story could be something huge or something tiny, and it’s nice to be able to have to figure it all out for myself for once. This is, I should point out, also part of Shiot Crock #11, which you can find more out about at the Comic’s Journal messageboard somewhere in the forums, and they should really work on getting some kind of a website together if they’re going to keep putting these things out…

Klopner – Pete & Earl #1

Best guess at contact info (search for “Shiot Crock”, that should get you close to the guy)

Pete & Earl #1

Yes, I think the name he goes by really is just Klopner. That’s all I could find looking around online anyway, and this comic doesn’t do much to clarify. This is the story of a fairly obvious Batman and Robin duo (Earl and Pete, respectively) who come across a super villain known as the Bitch. This Bitch wants to fuck Batm… er, Earl, and vows to give up crime forever if he’ll just give it to her. But there’s only so far that a man will go to fight crime, and she pushes him past the line! Christ, I’ll never know how people write blurbs in those preview books without wanting to shoot themselves in the face at the end of the day. It’s a funny book, too short for the premise to get boring and they say “fuck” a lot, so what more do you want out of a comic? Oh, and this is another part of Shiot Crock #11, and I found another link with all the covers (and a link to more info), if you’re curious. No idea about Klopner’s website, or e-mail, or anything else, but I’ll update if I can find it…

The Punch ‘Ems

I’m of two minds on this one, the latest in my random grabs from the Shiot Crock #11. On the one hand that’s a fantastic name for a book, great cover and the names and descriptions of the characters inside are some of the funniest I’ve seen in my years of reading super hero parody books. On the other hand, once the comics starts it’s mostly just them all trying to get together and find somebody to punch, which is fine to set up the characters, except for the fact that Joe says this might well be it for this bunch, so what’s the point of setting them up? Don’t get me wrong, there are funny moments in here, maybe I just got my hopes up too high from reading those brilliant character descriptions. Who knows? Either way, those characters are worth the price of admission by themselves, whatever that price may be. And no, I’m not going to give away any of the names, becuase it’s the names and the descriptions together that makes it funny.

Super Iffy

What a wonderfully fantastic comic this is. First off, one look at that cover (with one of the better sub-titles ever) should tell you that you might detect a hint of Jack Kirby in here. If that’s not your thing, well, with the original comics I can get that, but with these later day parodies, all of them that I’ve seen have deserved a look. This is the story of the evil Demi-Urge vs the power of Om, with all of the panels being laid out like that sample down there, with one declarative statement per panel. Oh, and it also has a character named Bart Justice. If all of these things don’t convince you to try to find this, there may be no hope for you, or for all good in the world. Oh, and this is also a part of Shiot Crock #11, generally with threads found around here somewhere…
